Culture Vulture

For a little bit of history and culture why not venture 15 minutes further to the village of Lacock. Now almost entirely owned by The National Trust. Walking down Lacock high street is like stepping back in time. Most of the buildings are 18th century or earlier and as such this hidden time capsule of a place has been used as the setting for a wealth of period productions including the BBC’s adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter and most recently Downton Abbey. Photography enthusiasts will be interested to know that Lacock Abbey was once home to William Henry Fox Talbot who took the very first photographic negative in 1835. The abbey is a fab place to visit, cram packed with quirky objects and historical tit bits, and the adjoining Fox Talbot Museum regularly hosts interesting exhibitions so check out what’s on before you visit.
